So, you don’t want to hop in your car while visiting beautiful Lake Tahoe? Understandable. If you’re more into maximizing your time outside over sitting in traffic, this is the list for you. We’ve compiled a few of our favorite things to do within walking distance of The Franciscan Lakeside Lodge.
The Franciscan has a private beach and pier, exclusive for resort guests. The beach and pier offer the perfect place to relax with a book, or play some games out in the pristine Lake Tahoe waters. Our grassy lawn also offers a sand volleyball court, barbecue areas, and picnic tables–perfect for posting up for a day to enjoy the views, the weather, and each other. And the best part? The Franciscan’s private beach and pier are easy to access from all room types.
2. Kayak or Paddleboard
The Tahoe Adventure Company operates out of the Tahoe Recreation Area next door to The Franciscan. Rent a kayak or a paddleboard for a day to enjoy Tahoe from the water-a truly unparalleled experience. They also offer sunset and full-moon tours, check their schedule out for more details.
3.Rent a Boat
Looking to go further? Rent a boat on Lake Tahoe for a memorable experience–exploring all of those coves and shorelines that make Tahoe spectacular. Rent a Boat Tahoe operates out of the Mourelatos Resort private beach, just a short walk from The Franciscan Lakeside Lodge.
4. Add Some Zip to Your Trip

The Tahoe Vista Treetop Adventure Park is designed for people of all athletic abilities, and is a fun way to add some challenge or adventure to your trip. Located just one mile from The Franciscan Lakeside Lodge, at the North Tahoe Regional Park, the Treetop Adventure Course is a mix of aerial trekking challenges and ziplines. You’ll be sure to be challenged, and to make memories when you do one of their courses. Reservations are recommended.
5. Go for a Hike or Bike!
The miles of trails at the North Tahoe Regional Park are well marked and great for exploring the area and becoming familiar with local flora and fauna. Check out their interpretive nature trail for placards detailing the local wildlife and plant life. Looking for more of a challenge? Their par course offers obstacles and challenges designed to make your hike, walk, or run a more comprehensive workout. The trails can be hiked or biked, and can be accessed from a paved walking and biking path adjacent to The Franciscan Lakeside Lodge property.
6. Playing Fields, Disc Golf, and Tennis Courts
Also located in the North Tahoe Regional Park are playing fields, disc golf, tennis, and pickleball courts. Hone your skills at your sport of choice while taking in the fresh mountain air.
7. Picnic and Play
Ok, we love the North Tahoe Regional Park, is that obvious yet? The last thing that we’ll mention here is their amazing picnicking areas and playgrounds. The playgrounds are suitable for kids 5-12, and the picnicking areas are first-come first-served, or can be rented for special occasions.
8. Eat, Drink, and be Merry
There are tons of great dining options in Tahoe Vista. For breakfast and lunch, head to Pep’s Place across the street. Dinner? Walk just one mile to one of the many options in Kings Beach, or grab some provisions from the nearby Safeway to make your own (all of our cabins and rooms come with fully equipped kitchens and kitchenettes). For dessert, enjoy an ice cream cone from the Mourelatos Cable Car just down the street.
