The North Tahoe Regional Park is located just one mile from The Franciscan Lakeside Lodge, and offers groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Both of these activities are a great way to explore Tahoe’s beautiful forests, and rentals are available nearby in Kings Beach. The Tahoe XC Center in Tahoe City also offers miles of groomed […]

Leaf Peepin’ at Lake Tahoe

What does autumn mean to you? Pumpkin spice, sweaters, and falling leaves? Come up to see the foliage at Lake Tahoe this year to get that fall fix. Here are a few of our favorite places to view those stunning fall colors:   Hope Valley Take the scenic route on your next trip to Tahoe. Located just south of the lake, Hope Valley is one of the more photographed areas for fall foliage at Lake Tahoe. Grab a bite at Sorenson’s and then wander through the trails, enjoying the copses of aspen showing off their golden color. Apple Hill Yet another place where it pays to take the scenic route. Apple Hill, located south of South Lake Tahoe, offers not only rolling hills dotted with groves of aspens, but also orchards, vineyards, and all of the fall activities you can imagine. Pick a bushel of apples to take with you for your Lake Tahoe getaway, or enjoy a hayride as a respite from the drive. Taylor Creek Visitor’s Center Throughout the early fall, watch salmon spawn at the Taylor Creek Visitor’s Center. The streams are absolutely full of the salmon on their way upstream, and if you’re lucky, you might even see […]

Fall for Lake Tahoe this Autumn

Many folks think of two seasons when they think of Lake Tahoe: winter and summer. However, we are here to tell you that fall is a season that shines up here. Sometimes referred to as Tahoe’s best-kept secret, autumn is a gorgeous time to visit. We love fall in Lake Tahoe. There are fewer crowds, so you can get to your destination and find parking quickly. Post up on that beach and have it all to yourself. Go on a peaceful hike and enjoy the peace and quiet that comes with having the woods all to yourself. Speaking of hiking, autumn is the perfect time of year to do that hike you’ve been wanting to do. Cooler temperatures and sunny days mean ideal trekking weather. The trails are less busy, and the views are resplendent. The aspens in the Tahoe basin change colors, giving you glimpses of bright foliage along the way. And just because it’s fall doesn’t mean that you have to stay out of the water! This time of year is great for paddleboarding, kayaking, and boating.  Some days are warm enough to jump into the cool Lake Tahoe blue! The lake is glassy in the morning, great for a […]
