Our POLICIES
As a valued guest of the Franciscan Lakeside Lodge, rest assured that our history of providing value and transparency ensures peace of mind when booking your stay with us.
Beginning July 1, 2024 the state of California will require lodging providers to include their service fees in the quoted rates, excluding local and state taxes. This means that what you actually pay for your lodging will more closely match the quoted price. As we support and comply with this new requirement, here’s what you can expect when booking your stay with the Franciscan Lakeside Lodge:
In your quoted price, we have never added Wi-Fi or parking fees and we will continue to provide these at no additional charge.
In your quoted price, we will include a booking fee, cleaning fee, and industry standard service fee.
Based on the Franciscan Lakeside Lodge's location in Placer County, North Lake Tahoe and the state of California, these are the taxes that you can reasonably expect to have added to our advertised rates beginning July 1, 2024:
Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) of 10% on lodging
Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) assessment of 2% on lodging and 1% on everything else in North Lake Tahoe
California Sales Tax of 7.25% on food & beverage and merchandise
How TOT & TBID Tax Assessments are Used
TBID revenues are allocated to initiatives that are making progress on workforce housing, regional transportation, economic vitality, trails, recreation, and tourism mitigation.
TOT funds are generated by a total of 10% North Lake Tahoe hotel tax paid only by overnight lodging guests who stay in hotel and short-term rental properties. In that total, 8% TOT is generated in unincorporated areas throughout Placer County, and an additional 2% TOT is charged only in North Lake Tahoe.
The 2% TOT was approved by voters in 2022, and the funds help pay for projects and quality-of-life services within our community that we could otherwise not afford. These include workforce housing, traffic reduction and transportation initiatives, bike paths, and trash and litter services in public areas. Within the TOT total, 41% (or around $11 million annually) are funds that the North Lake Tahoe Community Alliance Board of Directors and committees are charged with making recommendations to the Placer County Board of Supervisors for infrastructure improvements and programs that are important to North Lake Tahoe residents and businesses.
The North Lake Tahoe community needs to support our local businesses, while continuing to address critical transportation and workforce housing initiatives. It has become extremely challenging for people working in North Lake Tahoe to affordably live there as well. This is why addressing workforce housing has become a top priority for use of TOT funds generated by those who visit our region.
Effective July 1, 2024, California Senate Bill No. 644 will require hotels, third-party booking services, and hosting platforms to allow certain reservations for a hotel accommodation or a short-term rental located in California to be canceled without penalty for at least 24 hours after the reservation is confirmed.
Thank you for choosing the Franciscan Lakeside Lodge and North Lake Tahoe. We value your business and appreciate your support in keeping our region a beautiful place to visit, and a viable place for people to work and live.
